Postdoc in Exoplanet Microlensing
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are now being accepted for a Postdoctoral Associate, to work in the exoplanet microlensing group at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GFSC) in Greenbelt, MD. The position is funded through the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).
The GFSC exoplanet microlensing group is involved in a variety of research efforts. These include the current MOA ground-based microlensing survey, the future PRIME infrared microlensing survey, high angular resolution follow-up observations with the Keck and Hubble Space Telescopes, and the development of photometry, astrometry, and light curve modeling methods for the Galactic Exoplanet Survey of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (formerly WIFRST). The high angular resolution follow-up program provides host star mass measurements and help to develop the primary mass measurement method for the Roman Galactic Exoplanet Survey. A major focus of the light curve modeling and high angular resolution follow-up programs is the statistical analysis of wide orbit planet demographics. The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to contribute to at least one of these efforts, but this will depend on the selected candidate’s interests and expertise.
We invite applications from researchers familiar with any aspect of microlensing data analysis, as well as researchers willing to shift the focus of their research work to microlensing. Candidates for this position should have earned a recent Ph.D. in astronomy, physics or a closely related field. The initial funding for this position is expected for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year depending on performance and funding availability. The Postdoctoral Associate will work at GFSC (when pandemic conditions allow) but will be employed by and paid through the University of Maryland, College Park.
The position will remain available until filled. Applications received by December 15, 2020 will receive full consideration. The starting date and work arrangements will be flexible to accommodate issues related to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
TO APPLY: Applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae, list of publications, and a brief statement of research interests. In addition to these materials, applicants should request letters of reference from three scientists familiar with the applicant’s research experience. Letters of reference should be sent from the reference writer to the contact listed below.
