Position Announcement: Assistant Professor of Physics
Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics passionate about teaching, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of scientists. The successful candidate will typically teach several introductory and one upper division physics or astronomy courses using engaging, student-centered methods. UVU values faculty who foster curiosity, critical thinking, and success in a diverse student population through inclusive teaching and accessible mentorship.
In addition to teaching, the faculty member will develop a student-focused research program that provides meaningful undergraduate experiences leading to presentations and publications. The candidate is expected to pursue internal and external funding to support research and collaborate with colleagues within and beyond UVU. Departmental, college, university, and community service are also expected.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Physics (or closely related field) by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of or potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching; success in a field of physics research with potential for collaboration with current UVU faculty; experience supporting undergraduate engineering programs or developing instructional laboratories.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of core physics principles and computational methods; ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses; skill in mentoring undergraduate research and communicating complex ideas effectively; ability to use evidence-based teaching practices, collaborate with peers, and support diverse learners in a professional, inclusive environment.
