Job Description

Summary

The program coordinator will maintain the planetarium, present live shows, and create new planetarium visualizations. In addition, this position will assist customers, assist in educating the public, conduct research, and training student staff.  

Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise of Astronomy, Astrophysics Concepts, The Night Sky, and Celestial Motion; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision, database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Skill in speaking to the public about astronomy and/or science and adapting to different age groups and settings. 

Skill with a modern digital planetarium system such as Digistar, SkySkan Dark Matter, OpenSpace, Uniview, Sky Explorer, or equivalent software. 

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in astronomy, education, museum studies, or other relevant fields.

3 or more years of experience with modern digital planetarium systems.

Existing skill or ability to quickly learn other relevant software such as those in data visualization, 3D modeling, animation, and audio/video editing. 

3 or more years of experience with informal or formal science education or related field.

Communication: Communicates clearly and credibly in both verbal and written forms with diverse audiences.
