Job Description

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications from Ph.D. scientists for a postdoctoral position working on Tidal Disruption Events and AGN activity using archival X-ray observations. The appointment is for 3 years, subject to annual review and renewals. The likely start date will be about Fall 2024 (exact date negotiable). This position offers a competitive salary, benefits, and research funds.

The researcher will work with Prof. Decker French and her research group. We encourage candidates with broad interests in observational and time-domain astronomy to apply.

The University of Illinois has a vibrant research program in astrophysics and the researcher will have opportunities for cross-disciplinary work through the Center for AstroPhysical Surveys (CAPS) at the National Center for Supercomputer Applications (NCSA) and the Illinois Center for Advanced Studies of the Universe (ICASU).

Candidates should have or expect to receive a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics by Fall 2024.
