IRAM is an international research institute affiliated to MPG (Max-Planck Gesellschaft, Germany), CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France) and IGN (Instituto Geográfico Nacional, Spain). It operates two world-class observatories, the 30-meter telescope on Pico Veleta near Granada, Spain, and the 12-antenna NOEMA interferometer in the French Alps, and is leading an ambitious instrumentation development program.

IRAM employs more than 100 people from diverse backgrounds—researchers, engineers, technicians, and support staff—who contribute to positioning its observatories among the most recognized in the world in the field of radio astronomy.

Job description

IRAM is recruiting a Full Stack Developer for its Science Software team in Grenoble. This group is  made up of two software engineers and several astronomers. The team is in charge of developing web applications for astronomical researchers worldwide, as well as the software tools for reducing and analyzing all the scientific data produced by the IRAM's observatories.

As Full Stack Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and evolution of software and databases for the observed and science ready data products:

  • Design, code, deploy, optimize and maintain web applications.
  • Design, supervise, and maintain the databases.
  • Ensure integration into the global Virtual Observatory infrastructure.
  • Assist users.

Required profile

  • Engineering degree or PhD.
  • Solid experience as a web programmer.
  • Versatility and a strong ability to learn.
  • A passion for programming and a desire to improve this skill.
  • Willingness to acquire additional skills, particularly in data reduction and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and strong ability to team up.
  • A good level of written and spoken English.
  • Wish to join a dynamic team, in a motivating scientific environment.

Technical skills

  • Proficiency in database design (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Proficiency in web technologies (web services and frameworks, S3).
  • Proficiency with a backend framework.
  • Proficiency with at least one of Angular, React, Vue.
  • Knowledge in Python, Javascript, PHP.
  • Knowledge on high availability environment.
  • Knowledge of Linux and MacOS.

What we offer

  • Full-time permanent contract
  • Collective working hours: 40 hours per week on-site
  • 26 days of paid vacation + 28 days of compensatory time off (the dates of 14 of them is set by IRAM).
  • 13th month bonus and other specific bonuses.
  • Salary: €43K to €58K depending on profile and experience.
