Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), University of Hawaiʻi in Honolulu, to work with Dan Huber ([email protected]), Sukanya Chakrabarti ([email protected]), Robyn Sanderson ([email protected]) and Ben Shappee ([email protected]) on the analysis of variable star light curves obtained by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) and Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS).

The successful candidate will lead the construction of an all-sky catalog of asteroseismic distances to galactic M giants using ASAS-SN and ATLAS light curves. The successful candidate is expected to (a) work with the ASAS-SN and ATLAS teams at IfA to produce light curves, (b) develop and verify software to perform frequency analysis and derive asteroseismic distances from light curves of M giants, (c) participate in the scientific evaluation of the results and (d) assist with the organization of a summer undergraduate research program in galactic astronomy for underrepresented minorities in Hawaiʻi. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for observing time on telescopes at Maunakea Observatories.
