Postdoctoral position in cosmology
Job Summary
Orsay
France
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in CMB and large-scale structure cosmology at the Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale (IAS). IAS is located on the Orsay campus of Université Paris-Saclay, on the outskirts of Paris, and provides a dynamic and stimulating research environment. It comprises more than 130 faculty, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students working in cosmology, astrophysics, solar physics, planetary science, and astrobiology, with long-standing involvement in major space missions (e.g., Planck, Euclid).
The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research in observational cosmology and data analysis, with potential involvement in the Simons Observatory and Euclid projects. The cosmology group at IAS is a very active team, including ten faculty members working on a broad range of topics spanning the early Universe, reionization, 21 cm and cluster cosmology, experimental and observational CMB, large-scale structure, and machine learning/AI applications. The team is heavily involved in the Simons Observatory, Euclid, LiteBIRD, SKA, and future CMB spectral distortion projects (BISOU, FOSSIL).
The working language of the team is English.
The postholder will join the vibrant international astrophysics community in the broader Paris area and will have the opportunity to interact with researchers at collaborating institutes, including APC, CEA Saclay, IJCLab, and the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant area of astrophysics or physics by the time of appointment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in collaborative research environments.
The appointment will be for two years, with a negotiable start date between February 2026 and December 2026.
Please direct enquiries about the position to Dr. Giulio Fabbian ([email protected]).
Applications received before November 30, 2025, will be given full consideration. Applications should include:
-
CV (maximum three pages, including a publication list highlighting the most significant publications and a NASA ADS link)
-
Summary of past research and research interests (maximum four pages, including references)
-
Cover letter explaining why you are a good fit for the position, with examples of relevant skills and experience, and including the contact information of two references.
Candidates should arrange for their references to send letters of recommendation before the closing date (see instructions below).
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Employment includes French national health and dental coverage, maternity and paternity leave, lunch and public transportation subsidies, and national pension benefits. Schooling in France is free for all children from the age of three. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to take a free French language course if they so wish.
