Job Summary
Canberra ACT
Australia
Job Description
The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) at The Australian National University (ANU) is welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work within the research group of Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths and Dr Craig Anderson focusing on measuring the magnitude and structure magnetic fields in the nearby Universe using Faraday Rotation. The work will revolve around the ASKAP Polarisation Survey of the Universe’s Magnetism, POSSUM, using POSSUM Rotation Measures to probe the magnetoionic medium in the Magellanic Clouds, the circumgalactic medium of galaxies and/or nearby galaxy groups. This will also include some technical work to enable the delivery of the POSSUM survey data products.
RSAA has world-class staff and students, and an exceptional track record in research and teaching. ANU is a partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) project and Australia is a strategic partner of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) with access to telescopes at Paranal and La Silla. RSAA has access to the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputers, as well as in-house compute clusters. RSAA develops sophisticated astronomical and space hardware in the state-of-the-art facilities at our Advanced Technology and Instrumentation Centre.
ANU values diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to those of all backgrounds and identities. RSAA is the recipient of a Gold Pleiades Award recognising outstanding, sustained commitment to best practice in relation to the aims of equity, inclusion and diversity.
