Job Description
The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) (http://tdli.sjtu.edu.cn) and Department of Astronomy (http://astro.sjtu.edu.cn/en/) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University invite applications for several tenure-track positions (“Fellows”) in astrophysics. We are seeking candidates in all areas, from stars and exoplanets, time-domain/gravitational wave astronomy, plasma astrophysics, to particle astrophysics and cosmology, and from theoretical and observational astronomy to instrumental/laboratory astrophysics. Candidates with observational and/or instrumental experiences in all areas (optical, radio and high-energy) are particularly encouraged to apply. Exceptional candidates may be considered for tenured positions (“Senior fellows” or “T-D. Lee Professors”).
Faculty members at TDLI/DoA are expected to carry out independent forefront research and supervise students (both Ph.D. and undergraduate students). The nominal start date is September 2026, but can be flexible.
TDLI is a national research institute named after the renowned Chinese-American physicist Tsung-Dao Lee (Nobel Prize 1957). TDLI is devoted to fundamental research and graduate training in astrophysics, particle physics and condensed matter physics. TDLI has an internationalized environment with English as its working language. DoA is an academic department embedded in the School of Physics and Astronomy at SJTU.
TDLI/DoA has a vigorous visitor’s program, and organizes topical workshops and conferences each year to create a scientifically stimulating environment. Together, the Astrophysics division of TDLI and DoA at SJTU have active research programs in galactic/extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, high-energy and relativistic astrophysics, exoplanets and stars, and laboratory/plasma astrophysics. TDLI/SJTU is building 4.4-meter spectroscopic telescope, to be completed in late 2026, for time-domain science, cosmology and stars/exoplanets. Faculty at TDLI has ample computational resources.
