Job Description

The research group of Dr. Timothy A. Davis at Cardiff University is seeking applications to fill the position of Research Associate.

This research associate will have the chance to study supermassive black holes, star formation, gas flows, and/or the properties of extragalactic giant molecular clouds. The appointed individual will join the international mm-Wave Interferometric Survey of Dark Object Masses (WISDOM), and work directly with long baseline interferometric data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), which reveals the parsec scale structure of molecular gas in the centre of a large sample of nearby galaxies.

In particular we are seeking a researcher with an established track record in one or more of the aforementioned fields. Experience in working with interferometric data is also desirable.

The research associate will become a part of the active and diverse Galaxies and Observational Cosmology group at Cardiff University ( Other members of the astronomy and instrumentation groups play leading roles in modelling and detecting gravitational waves, transient phenomena, the cosmic microwave background, exoplanets, the study of star formation within the Milky Way, and building the next generation ground and space based telescopes.

This position is for two and a half years, available from 1st October 2019, but the precise starting date is negotiable.

Salary: £ 33,199 - £ 39,609 per annum (Grade 6)
