Job Description

The Department of Physics at the University of Helsinki is seeking an ambitious postdoctoral researcher to join the Theoretical Extragalactic Research Group. The successful candidate is expected to carry out research within the framework of the SIBELIUS project, a campaign of cosmological simulations of the Local Universe, funded by the Academy of Finland (PI: Till Sawala).

Applicants should have a PhD in astrophysics or a closely related field, and ideally also experience with cosmological and / or hydrodynamic simulations. In addition, good programming and data analysis skills and a demonstrated ability for independent work are considered highly advantageous.

The project includes international collaboration with researchers throughout Europe, and provides ample funding for travel. The successful applicant will have access to the Finnish national supercomputing centre, enjoy a stimulating work environment, and is encouraged to develop a unique research profile within the framework set by the research project. They assist in supervising PhD students and participate in teaching for the English-language master courses.

The salary will be approximately € 45 000 - 50 000 p.a. and also includes comprehensive occupational health care. Included Benefits

In addition to access to the the Finnish public health system, the job includes comprehensive occupational health care, as well as employer contributions to social security and pensions. Employees also have the right to six weeks of paid vacation per year, paid sick leave and paid family leave (up to six months for each parent). University housing at below-market rates can be provided for up to two years (subject to availability, with preference to international applicants).
