Job Summary: Under the direction of the Lick Observatory Superintendent, the Facilities Supervisor is responsible for planning and scheduling of routine and emergency maintenance at Lick Observatory, Mount Hamilton, where year-round residential housing with nominal rent is available for the selected candidate. At 4,200 feet, the site covers about 3,600 acres, and over 100,000 square feet of maintained buildings including telescope domes, shop and public buildings as well as employee residences. The incumbent also supervises the maintenance and custodial staff, plans and oversees deferred maintenance and capital facility projects, performs skilled work as required, and represents maintenance operations at meetings with Lick Observatory management.
Some required qualifications include:
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Demonstrated Experience in managing physical plant maintenance with knowledge in most of the following areas:
Structure repair and maintenance
Electrical systems
Heating systems
Plumbing
Painting and waterproofing
Sewage disposal system
Water supply and distribution
Power equipment and tools
Rolling stock maintenance
Safe handling of hazardous materials
