Job Description

Are you keen to work with a dynamic software team that enables cutting-edge research? Are you interested in deploying your project management experience on an exciting array of projects, in an environment where technical excellence, collaboration and a growth mindset are key values? We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced software project manager to join our energetic, collaborative and supportive Research Data & Software team at AAO.

Australian Astronomical Optics (AAO) is seeking an experienced software project manager to oversee, provide expert direction, and drive the delivery of complex software and data projects within the Research Data & Software (RDS) section of our department. Our team delivers initiatives and projects in the focus areas of instrument control, data and workflow management, data processing and analysis, web development, and mobile applications. The Software Project Manager is an important role within the team, and will have oversight of the technical and budgetary success of projects in partnership with RDS leadership.

About You: You are a team player with a collaborative and growth mindset. You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, coupled with strong organisational and technical skills. You possess substantial knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle and have successfully managed a range of software projects through to delivery. You have extensive experience in agile methodologies and in collaborating in a matrix cross-functional environment, to deliver quality project outcomes. You are comfortable communicating the logic behind technical and project decisions to non-specialist audiences, manage roadblocks, and facilitate the development of creative solutions to deliver technical requirements to scope and budget.

About Us: The Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering is driven by the spirit of innovation. Within the Faculty, AAO is a recognised world leader in innovative astronomical instrumentation, software and research. The AAO works in a matrix structure with close collaboration across all of its functional groups. There is a strong emphasis on communities of practise and a shared culture of learning and innovation.
