Job Description

The IPI (Initiative Physique des Infinis) of the Alliance Sorbonne Université, Paris, France, invites applications from scientists with recent PhDs for several fellowships beginning in 2023. IPI fellows will receive a salary according to experience, and generous travel, research, and visitor funds, for 2 years or 3 years, depending on the contract. The successful candidates will need to have obtained their PhD no more than three years before the eventual starting date of the postdoctoral contract.

IPI fellows will perform their research activities in one of the IPI member laboratories (depending on research specialty), will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment with rich intellectual and computational resources, and opportunities for involvement in leading facilities. 

IPI laboratories include LPNHE, LPP, IAP, LPTHE, LULI, LESIA, LERMA, LPENS and INSP.

The prospective candidate will be expected to perform his or her research activities in one of the following fields:
Laser-plasma acceleration - High energy astrophysics - Cosmology - Dark Energy - Intense excitation of matter - Intense multi-charged ion beams - Formation and dynamics of galaxies - Large structures of the Universe - High energy density by laser - Space engineering Nanosatellites - Matter/Antimatter - Dark Matter - Physics of the Universe - Physics of Gravitation Physics - High Energy Physics - Particle Physics - Fusion Plasmas - Laboratory Plasmas - Dense Plasmas - Interstellar Plasmas - Cold Plasmas - Solar Plasmas - Space Plasmas - Cosmic Radiation - Cosmic Background Radiation - Particle Sources - Intense Radiation Sources - String Theory - Early Universe - Deep Universe

Members of the IPI are involved in leading capacities in several international projects, including ATLAS and LHCb at the LHC (CERN), HESS, CTA, DESI, Rubin Observatory/LSST, SPT-3G, Euclid, SVOM, MMS, Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, JUICE, Helioswarm, LOFAR, SKA, Apollon, ITER, …

Applications should include a cover letter (maximum 1 page), a research proposal (maximum 3 pages), a statement of past research accomplishments (maximum 3 pages), a curriculum vitae and a publication list. 

NOTE: All applicants must explicitly state in which laboratory and team they wish to work, the collaborative projects envisaged, and the contacts made in this regard with the relevant permanent IPI-members. Candidates should also nominate three referees to be indicated in the web application platform (see below).

All application materials (except the recommendation letters) will have to be received by November 18th, 2022 midnight (CET) to guarantee full consideration. Recommendation letters are expected to be received no later than November 27th, 2022. Selected candidates will be notified by the end of December, 2022.

The IPI laboratories are located on the Pierre and Marie Curie campus of Sorbonne University in central Paris. The positions include health coverage for employees and families. School in France is free for all children above 3 years old, and day care is available.
