Postdoctoral Research Position in Observational Extragalactic Astrophysics
Job Summary
Job Description
The School of Physics and Astronomy at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in the field of observational extragalactic astrophysics. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Jeyhan Kartaltepe and her research group, in collaboration with Prof. Caitlin Casey at UT Austin, to develop an interactive public archive for spectroscopic observations and associated data products in the COSMOS field. Duties include reducing and analyzing archival spectroscopy, preparing datasets for public release, working to automate the process of redshift, line flux, and other spectroscopic measurements, and collaborating with graduate and undergraduate students, plus the larger COSMOS collaboration, on scientific publications.
Applicants must have a PhD in astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field, at the start of the appointment. The successful candidate is expected to have a background in galaxy evolution and experience with reducing and analyzing spectroscopic observations. Interest in student mentoring, citizen science, astronomical databases, and web development is a plus.
The appointment is for a period of three years contingent on performance. The anticipated start date is Summer/Fall 2021. Applications should be submitted at http://careers.rit.edu/staff (reference 5353BR) and include a cover letter, curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and a statement of recent and current research activity. Candidates should also arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly to [email protected]. All applications received by February 1 will receive full consideration; however, applications will continue to be received until the position is filled.
