Job Description

The Astronomy Department at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer position to begin in the fall of 2026. We seek an individual with experience teaching astronomy and astrophysics who is committed to a career of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Ph.D. in hand in Astronomy or a related field.

The expected course load is three courses per semester, but the successful candidate will initially teach two courses per semester in Astronomy and assist with outreach activities in collaboration with the Office of Recruiting in the College of Arts and Sciences to recruit undergraduate students in Astronomy and Physics. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to advise undergraduate research students as part of their normal teaching load. Service in the area of outreach and recruitment will be expected. The course load will likely increase to three courses per semester following the initial three year appointment. Assigned courses will generally be at the general education level but could include courses at any level in our curriculum.

The department offers a collegial working environment in a quintessential college town in a beautiful area of south central Indiana. We offer undergraduate degrees in Astronomy and Astrophysics and a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy.
