Job Description

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (Mount Stromlo) at The Australian National University (ANU) is welcoming applications for a postdoctoral fellow who will work in the group of Professor Stuart Wyithe focussing on extracting astrophysical constraints from redshifted 21cm observations of reionization. The program will include analysis of observations taken with the Murchison Widefield Array in collaboration with Professor Cath Trott, and will include forward modelling of a simulation library for mock observations, as well as inference of measurements and constraints that can be placed on astrophysical aspects of galaxy formation.

RSAA has world-class staff and students, and an exceptional track record in research and teaching. The vibrant and diverse astronomical research community at RSAA has access to a broad array of facilities, including optical telescopes operated by ANU at Siding Spring Observatory (AAT 4m, ANU 2.3m) and radio telescopes (ATCA, Parkes, ASKAP, MWA). ANU is a partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) project and Australia is a strategic partner of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) with access to telescopes at Paranal and La Silla. RSAA has access to the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputers, as well as in-house compute clusters. RSAA develops sophisticated astronomical and space hardware in the state-of-the-art facilities at our Advanced Technology and Instrumentation Centre.

ANU values diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to those of all backgrounds and identities. RSAA is the recipient of a Silver Pleiades Award recognising outstanding, sustained commitment to best practice in relation to the aims of equity, inclusion and diversity. ANU is a recipient of the bronze award through the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) program and a platinum member of the Australian Network on Disability. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and identities and from individuals who may have had a non-linear career path, career gaps or career breaks.
