Postdoctoral position in numerical cosmology
Job Summary
Parkville VIC
Australia
Job Description
The Astrophysics Group at the University of Melbourne invites applications for a research fellow in numerical cosmology working with Dr Hayley Macpherson.
The position will provide the opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to make contributions to the field of inhomogeneous cosmology via state-of-the-art numerical relativity simulations of large-scale structure formation. The focus will be to study the impact of gravitational lensing on galaxy images and the CMB in a nonlinear general-relativistic framework; comparing to common approximations to determine their accuracy for precision cosmological surveys. Experience using and manipulating simulated cosmological data will be valuable. A fraction of the time will be available for independent research projects.
The School of Physics is a partner in the ARC Centre of Excellences for Dark Matter Particle Physics, and Gravitational Wave Discovery, and provides a vibrant collaborative environment. The School collaborates with researchers around the globe to address some of the most fundamental problems today in astro- and particle physics. Beyond numerical cosmology, the School works on CMB observations, the MWA radio telescope, LHC and LIGO. The School also has substantial expertise in neutrino and ‘Beyond the standard model’ physics.
