Postdoctoral Associate Position in Computational Astrophysics
Job Summary
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill invites applications for postdoctoral associates to conduct research in theoretical and computational astrophysics with Prof. Carl Rodriguez. The successful candidate will work in any of the following areas: gravitational-wave or multi-messenger astrophysics, compact-object astrophysics, stellar dynamics, post-Newtonian theory, binary stellar evolution, or galaxy assembly/galactic archeology. This search is particularly interested in candidates experienced with 1D single and binary stellar evolution, particularly of massive stars, or hydrodynamical simulations of stellar interactions or star formation. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years, with renewal for a third year upon satisfactory progress. The position comes with a competitive salary, health benefits, and relocation expenses. Additional funds are available for computational equipment and travel.
The successful applicant will join the UNC Physics and Astronomy Department and will be encouraged to collaborate with other faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates. UNC has access to several observatory facilities, including guaranteed time on the SOAR Telescope in Chile. The Rodriguez group also has access to significant computational resources, including dedicated nodes on the Longleaf Cluster at UNC and the Henry2 Cluster at NC State.
For full consideration, all materials should be received by Jan 15th, 2024. The anticipated starting date is September 2024, although a later or earlier start date can be negotiated. Candidates should apply online at https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/268451, where they can upload their cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, and the names of three people who can submit letters of recommendation.
