Job Description

Postdoctoral positions – University of Minnesota, Roman Galaxy Redshift Survey Project Infrastructure Team

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, NASA’s next flagship mission in astrophysics, will be launch-ready in October 2026. The Roman Project Infrastructure Teams (PITs) have sustained funding to partner with the Science Centers in developing the infrastructure needed by the community to pursue Roman’s ambitious science goals. We seek one postdoctoral scholar to join the Roman GRS PIT team as Roman Junior Scientists, with work focused on deliverables to the NASA Roman Project, in the areas of modeling galaxy populations.

Experience with slitless spectroscopic data to galaxy redshift survey data is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to pursue their own independent research program, and will also have the opportunity to work with Euclid data under the guidance of Dr. Scarlata, in view of the strong synergy between Roman and Euclid.

The Roman GRS PIT team members will closely collaborate and frequently interact with each other. Roman GRS Junior Scientists will be actively mentored, and given opportunities to represent the team at major conferences. They will retain team membership upon completion of their terms, provided they continue being active on the team. Each Roman GRS Junior Scientist position has a 3-year term, renewed annually upon satisfactory performance, subject to the availability of funding.
