Assistant professor in Basic Science: Pushing the boundaries of knowledge in physics, astronomy, nanoscience and microtechnology
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position as part of a broad Basic Science recruitment in physics, astronomy, nanoscience, and microtechnology. Chalmers University of Technology offers a collaborative and international research environment in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Astronomy and plasma physics (AoP) division at the Physics and Astronomy department at Chalmers hosts about 45 staff members involved in research activities such as active galactic nuclei, evolved stars, exoplanets, galaxy evolution, interstellar medium, star formation, as well as fusion plasma physics.
The AoP division particularly encourages applicants with independent, internationally competitive research plans. AoP’s strategic priority areas for this position are in galaxy formation and evolution, astrochemistry, and/or radio and millimetre/sub-millimetre astronomy. The division also prioritizes fostering and developing good work environment as a facilitator of scientific excellence. The AoP division has strong connections to Onsala Space Observatory, Sweden’s national infrastructure for radio astronomy and an active part of development and operations of international facilities such as ALMA, LOFAR, and SKA.
The position is a 5-year tenure-track appointment with a competitive start-up package, including funding for a PhD student, relocation support, mentoring, and leadership training. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct high-quality research, supervise students, apply for external funding, and contribute to teaching (~20–30%).
Starting date is flexible but preferably not later than the first half of 2027.
