Postdoctoral in Observational Cosmology & Rubin Observatory
Job Summary
Job Description
We are seeking postdoctoral scholars to join our observational cosmology group. Our current emphasis is on ensuring that the Rubin Observatory/LSST will meet or exceed expectations, and on developing data analysis methods to fully exploit the next generation of observational data. In particular, our group is deeply engaged in identifying and addressing the various sources of systematic error that afflict contemporary observational cosmology. We are seeking individuals with an interest in precision calibration, in digging into the nuances of point spread functions, and on developing innovative advanced analysis methodologies for supernova cosmology and lensing phenomenology. Experience in some combination of astronomical instrumentation, experimental physics, or astronomical data processing (imaging and/or spectroscopy) is desirable. A PhD in physics, astronomy, or a related field required by the time of appointment. We are seeking individuals who share our commitment to an inclusive and supportive work environment, with a streak of independence and strong leadership skills. This is a two-year position with potential renewal for a third year. Resources include Harvard's high capacity computational facility, the opportunity to apply for telescope time, and the rich intellectual environment of the Harvard/Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
Please provide a description of why you consider this position a good match to your background and goals, along with a CV and list of publications, to [email protected]. In addition, please arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by the application deadline of Dec 15, 2020 to the same address.
