Two Faculty Positions BYU Dept. of Physics and Astronomy
Job Summary
Provo, UT
United States
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, invites applications for two faculty positions to begin August 2026. The first is a professorial faculty position requiring a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant externally funded research program at BYU. They will also provide excellent teaching and research mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels and give service in the university and in their research community. We welcome applicants who strengthen or complement existing research or who introduce strategic/emerging areas of research (see https://physics.byu.edu).
The second position is for a professional teaching faculty member. Successful candidates should hold a master’s or doctoral (preferred) degree in physics, astronomy or a related field, demonstrate high aptitude for undergraduate teaching and a willingness to provide service to the department. This position does not include a research component. Rather, it solely entails teaching, teaching support, and other service assignments. For example, this faculty member may be asked to manage physics demonstrations and the student workers who deliver them to classrooms for the department.
