Job Description

Columbia University invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Scientist positions in solar physics at the Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory (CAL). The successful candidate will join the group of Drs. Michael Hahn and Daniel Wolf Savin. Topics of interest include observational studies into the properties of plasma waves in the transition region and corona, the physical processes that accelerate the solar wind from within coronal holes and at their boundaries, and other subjects broadly related to coronal heating and the acceleration of the solar wind. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Solar Physics, Astrophysics, Physics, Applied Physics, Plasma Physics, or a related discipline at the time of the appointment. The appointment will be initially for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, contingent upon the availability of funds and mutual satisfaction. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University‚Äôs good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
