Systems Engineering Specialist

Classification: ANU Officer 8 OR ANU Officer 6/7
Salary package: $98,387 - $129,772 (AUD) per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full-time, Continuing (contingent funded)

The Position

The Systems Engineering Specialist will lead systems engineering activities for advanced instrumentation projects in ground-based astronomy and civil space missions. This role is central to the successful delivery of complex, multidisciplinary systems, including telescope instrumentation, satellite payloads, and spaceflight hardware. The position involves requirements management, system architecture, interface control, verification and validation, and product assurance oversight.

The Systems Engineering Specialist will work closely with scientists, engineers, and external collaborators to ensure that systems meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards.

The College and School

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) is a school within the College of Science and Medicine. RSAA is based at the Mount Stromlo Observatory; a world-class facility located in a bushland setting near Canberra. The role involves working in laboratory, cleanroom, and workshop environments, as well as occasional travel to observatories and partner institutions.
