Job Description

The Physics & Astronomy Department at Amherst College invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to work with Prof. Daniella Bardalez Gagliuffi in the field of brown dwarfs, giant exoplanets, and low mass stars, with a particular interest in atmospheres and formation. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to supporting a broadly diverse community. 

Candidates must hold a PhD in astrophysics or related fields by the appointment start.  Particular topics of interest include near infrared spectroscopy, direct imaging, atmospheric retrievals, orbit fitting, and population statistics.  The appointment is for 2 years with an additional year dependent upon performance and continued funding, set to begin in mid-2024 or later.

The Physics & Astronomy Department at Amherst College is part of the Five College Astronomy Department which includes the University of Massachusetts, and Smith, Hampshire, and Mt. Holyoke Colleges. The successful applicant will have access to FCAD resources including FCAD-allocated time on the 72-inch Perkins Telescope in Flagstaff, AZ, the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT), and the Amherst and Unity High Performance Computing clusters
