Salary package: $121,359 - $129,772 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full-time, Continuing (contingent funded)
Job description
This position is continuing (contingent funded). The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of December 2030.
The Software Engineering Specialist will design, develop and maintain software systems for astronomical data acquisition, instrument control, and telemetry. They will have an initial focus on projects related to next-generation optical telescopes such as the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT).
To excel in this role, you will have:
- Progress towards postgraduate qualifications in software engineering, computer science, astronomy & astrophysics, or related disciplines, OR a relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum of four years’ relevant experience in scientific and/or aerospace software development;
- Experience with at least one of Python, C, or C++, and with embedded systems and Unix environments;
- A track record of applying best-practice software development methodologies, including version control, robust testing, and detailed documentation;
- The ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams, and to manage workloads across multiple projects with minimal supervision; and,
- Experience in astronomical instrumentation, astronomical software, and/or spaceflight hardware/software would be favourably regarded.
