Job Description

The Department of Physics and Optical Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a non-tenure track, 9-month, full-time position, as Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor in Physics with an expected start date of August 11, 2025. The position includes responsibilities for teaching lecture courses and coordinating recitation sessions. The successful candidate will be expected to teach foundational level physics courses, and any major required physics course offered by the Department. Recitation session coordination entails overseeing the curriculum and managing graduate teaching assistants.

Required Qualifications: The applicant will possess a M.S. or Ph.D. in an area of Physics or related discipline, a demonstrated history of employing best practices in classroom pedagogy, and a strong commitment to fostering the success of students with varying learning styles and academic backgrounds.

Desired qualifications include experience with large lecture courses and experience with the development of laboratory exercises, the ability to supervise undergraduate students, as well as previous experience in training and coordinating graduate teaching assistants.

The department supports BA, BS, MS, and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students and prides itself on student hands-on training. Currently, the department is home to 75 undergraduate physics majors and over 50 graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Physics and Optical Science through participation in the development/implementation of undergraduate curricula.
