Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Classical & Recurrent Novae
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in Classical and Recurrent Novae, working with Dr Matt Darnley within the Nova Group at the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University, UK. The goals of this STFC funded project include: 1) exploring the newly discovered population of rapidly recurring novae, 2) observing and modeling the related phenomenon of nova super-remnants, 3) using classical and recurrent novae to constrain the size of the nova contribution to the Type Ia Supernova population.
You should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field by the starting date. We seek candidates from a wide variety of fields, including applicants with expertise in (but not limited to): observations or theories of classical or recurrent novae (including related objects, accretion, etc.); hydrodynamical modelling of stellar outflows or explosions; or X-ray, ultraviolet, or radio observations of transient astrophysical phenomena and their remnants.
The Astrophysics Research Institute owns and operates the 2m Liverpool Telescope (La Palma), this facility underpins much of the observational work carried out within the Nova Group.
The position is fixed term for 36 months. The start date is 1st April 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
To apply, please upload a CV, publication list, contact information for references, and a brief statement of research interests, through LJMU's vacancies webpage (see link provided). You may upload a single PDF file, but please make sure to fill in all boxes on the submission page (e.g., "see attached PDF file").
