Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in transient astronomy at the Graduate Institute of Astronomy at National Central University, working within the research group led by Prof. Janet Ting-Wan Chen. This position is supported by her Yushan Young Fellowship and will involve research projects related to core-collapse supernovae, superluminous supernovae, fast transients and kilonovae.

The successful candidate will be granted data access rights and participate in various time-domain surveys, including the Vera Rubin Observatory's LSST, ATLAS, ePESSTO+ and ENGRAVE projects, as well as involvement in TAOS2 and YSE. NCUIA operates the Lulin One-meter Telescope and a 40cm-SLT at Lulin Observatory, Taiwan. A new 2-meter telescope is also planned for installation in San Pedro Martir, Mexico, expected to be completed by 2025. The successful candidate will share observational duties with group members, help establish a new laboratory and mentor students.

The position is initially for two years with the potential for extension based on performance and funding. The starting date is flexible, with an emphasis on beginning as soon as possible. The salary will be based on research experience, ranging from 60k to 80k NTD monthly (annual salary of 13.5 months). The successful candidate will be member of the excellent public health insurance system of Taiwan.
