Postdoctoral position for intergalactic medium studies using fast radio bursts
Job Summary
Job Description
The Physics Institute at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV; www.fis.ucv.cl), invites applications for a postdoctoral position in astrophysics, focused on studying the intergalactic medium (IGM) using fast radio bursts (FRBs). The successful applicant will work with Prof. Nicolas Tejos at PUCV and join the “The Fast and Fortunate for FRB Follow-up” (F4) team (https://sites.google.com/ucolick.org/f-4/home).
We seek a qualified and motivated researcher with a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in extragalactic astrophysics, and expertise in the IGM, FRBs and/or large-scale structure of the Universe. The position is funded by the ESO-Chile Joint Committee for 2-years, with a salary of $24,240,000 CLP/year (standard scale for postdocs in Chile), and may be extended through additional grants to the F4 team.
The astrophysics group at PUCV (https://fis.ucv.cl/acg/) focuses on extragalactic astronomy, the intergalactic and circumgalactic media, large-scale structure, the high redshift universe, and cosmology. At PUCV, successful applicants will have access to the time guaranteed to Chilean institutions on all observing facilities based in the country (VLT, ALMA, Gemini-S, Magellan, APEX, SOAR, ASTE, La Silla, CTIO, LSST and the future ELTs). The Physics Institute is based on the Curauma Campus of PUCV in the city of Valparaíso, at ~20 min drive from Viña del Mar and at ~1h drive from Santiago (https://fis.ucv.cl/contacto/).
Applicants should send a cover letter, a CV, a list of publications, a research statement (2-3 pages), and contact information for 3 reference letters. Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Prof. Nicolas Tejos for additional information. Applications received before December 31st will get full consideration; later applications may still be considered until the position is filled.
