Job Description

Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoctoral position (renewable for 1 year) in theoretical stellar physics and planetary formation at IRAP/OMP (Toulouse, France).

The successful candidate will work with Drs C Baruteau, L Jouve & JF Donati within the NewWorlds ERC project, and will focus on theoretical studies of the impact of magnetic fields on the migration and survival of young close-in planets in the early evolutionary phases of low-mass stars. More specifically, the candidate will investigate how magnetically induced gaps in central regions of protoplanetary discs vary with time on a range of time scales, how close-in planets distribute as migration proceeds throughout the disc lifetime, and how subsequent orbital evolution takes places for the close-in planets that survived the previous steps.

This study will be carried out in the larger framework of the SPIRou Legacy Survey, a large observational programme dedicated to planetary systems of M dwarfs and magnetized star / planet formation, to be carried out with SPIRou, the new generation near-IR velocimeter / spectropolarimeter at CFHT, from 2018 to 2022.

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher specialized in theoretical stellar physics or in planetary formation. Prior experience in the following areas is preferred: planet formation and/or migration, stellar physics, protoplanetary discs, magneto-hydrodynamics.

Applicants should send their complete CV with full publication list, along with their long-term research project, to [email protected] / [email protected] / [email protected] by June 30, 2018.

Applicants should also arrange for at least 3 reference letters to be sent to the above addresses by the same deadline.
