Job Description

The Cosmic Magnetism and Interstellar Physics Group ( at Stanford University seeks recent Ph.D. scientists for a postdoctoral research position in Galactic magnetism and interstellar medium science. The successful candidate will join the vibrant research community at Stanford and the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC).

Candidates should have or expect to receive a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics prior to starting their appointment.

Knowledge of the interstellar medium, astrophysical magnetic fields, or polarization data will be an asset. Candidates with a strong background in other astronomical data analysis and an interest in learning more about interstellar magnetic fields are also strongly encouraged to apply. Our group is working on a diverse set of problems involving Galactic and extragalactic magnetism, phases of the interstellar medium, 3D ISM structure, interstellar turbulence, star formation, and polarized cosmological foregrounds, among other topics. We welcome applications from candidates interested in working in these or related areas.

KIPAC offers significant computational resources for data analysis, and also provides the opportunity to collaborate on novel data analysis techniques through Stanford Data Science and other cross-disciplinary initiatives.

This position offers excellent benefits ( and salary, and the appointment will be made for a term of three years.
