In case the government shutdown continues and civil servants cannot travel to the DPS meeting, we are issuing the following guidelines:

  • Presenters who are affected may ask a colleague to give their presentations.
  • We are trying to assess if hotel cancellations will impact our minimum hotel block. If you cancel your reservation at the Sheraton, please email Kim Earle (
  • We cannot refund registration fees. In exceptional cases, where this would cause personal hardship, we will consider the request after the meeting, once we know our financial status.
  • We will still go ahead with Agency Night, re-arranging the program and speakers as needed.

Pre-Registration is Closed - You can Register Onsite in Denver, CO.

DPS Meeting Carbon Neutrality
Air travel is a major part of the carbon footprints of many of us in the planetary community.  If you drive 10,000 miles a year, your contribution to climate change is greater if you drive a Prius and make only two round-trip cross-country flights a year, than if you drive a 20 MPG SUV and otherwise stay home.  Over 90% of the carbon emissions from a typical scientific meeting come from participant travel to the meeting.  We are encouraging participants to contribute $30 towards the purchase of carbon offsets from Native Energy ( , which will be used for a variety of third-party certified projects to reduce carbon emissions.  Offsets are not a panacea, but will go a small way towards compensating for the meeting's carbon footprint.  Thank you.

The Hartmann Student Travel Grant Program
Please consider a donation to the Hartmann Travel Grant fund, which awards grants to enable students to attend DPS meetings.  For more details see

The Susan Niebur Professional Development Fund
Consider donating to the new professional development award for planetary scientists. The fund will provide financial assistance to qualifying DPS members to facilitate their attendance at the annual DPS meeting by offsetting dependent-care costs, either at the meeting location or at home during the week of the conference. In this, its inaugural year, the Susan Niebur Professional Development Fund will support Dependent Care Grants for the 2013 DPS meeting.  For more information, see
