Submillimeter Array Issues Call for Proposals

Qizhou Zhang Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian

We wish to draw your attention to an upcoming call for proposals for the Submillimeter Array (SMA), the reconfigurable interferometric array of eight 6-meter antennas on Maunakea jointly built and operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The array operates in the 230 GHz, 345 GHz, and 420 GHz bands.

The SMA makes available a fraction of the observing time to principal investigators from the astronomical community worldwide. The deadline for proposal submission for the coming semester (2015B: 16 November 2015 − 15 May 2016) is 4 August 2015.

More information, technical details, and instructions and tools for proposal preparation and submission can be found on the SMA Observer Center website. The proposal submission tool is expected to open for proposal submission in mid-July 2015.

Questions or comments regarding the call for proposals can also be addressed to [email protected].
