Two Upcoming AAS Regional Meetings
The AAS seeks to achieve its mission to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe via a variety of activities, including organizing meetings. However, it is inefficient for the AAS staff to organize small gatherings at the regional level. At the 224th AAS meeting in Boston, a new effort was proposed — AAS Regional Meetings. The AAS endorses regional meetings that meet a few simple rules designed to support and foster diverse astronomical discourse. Two such meetings are coming up in April:
- The MidAmerican Regional Astrophysics Conference (MARAC) will take place 8–9 April at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
- The 2016 Kentucky Area Meeting will be held Saturday, 9 April, at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.
Both regional meetings welcome attendees involved in teaching and/or research in astronomy, astrophysics, or space science. Students are especially welcome to attend and advanced amateurs are also invited. For more information on each meeting, visit their respective websites linked above.
