The Honorable Thomas E. Perez, US Secretary of Labor, invites AAS members who'll be in the DC metro area on Tuesday, 23 June 2015, to attend the induction of the late Franklin Edward "Frank" Kameny into the Labor Hall of Honor. Kameny was an astronomer who was fired from the US Army Map Service in 1957 for being gay. In 2012 the AAS recognized Kameny’s lifetime efforts to secure equal employment rights for all.

The induction ceremony begins at 3:00 pm EDT at the US Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC (entrance at 3rd and C Streets, NW), and will be followed by a reception. Guests should arrive 30 minutes before the program for security screening; photo identification is required for entrance. You must register/RSVP by Friday, 19 June.

Established in 1988, the Dept. of Labor's Hall of Honor posthumously recognizes the extraordinary men and women throughout history who have made significant contributions to the betterment of work, workers, and workplaces in America.
