Obituaries of Society members are published in the BAAS as a tribute and for future historians of science. The AAS Obituary Committee is responsible for commissioning and compiling the obituaries. The AAS Obituary Committee depends entirely on the network of astronomical colleagues, including astronomy department and observatory administrators, for notification when an astronomer has died.

To inform us of the death of an astronomer or to volunteer to write the obituary of a colleague please contact the current Vice-Chair of the Historical Astronomy Division or Crystal Tinch.

Bruno Benedetto Rossi (1905 - 1993)

Bruno Rossi died on Sunday the 21st of November 1993.

Obituaries for Bruno Rossi, a pioneer in the fields of cosmic rays and X-ray astronomy and longtime Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will appear in Quarterly J. Royal Astronomical Soc. and Biographical Memoirs of the Natl. Acad. Sciences.
