Dark Halos of Galaxies
Michael Liu (University of California, Berkeley) presents data on the faint halo around the galaxy NGC 5907. The observations were made by Hubble Space Telescope's Near Infrared Camera. John Kormendy (University of Hawaii) presents evidence for small, dark galaxies. Panel members, from left, Michael Liu & James Graham (University of California, Berkeley), John Kormendy (University of Hawaii) and Vera Rubin (Carnegie Institution of Washington) discuss dark halos surrounding galaxies. Advances in Infrared ImagingCharles Townes (University of California, Berkeley) describes new techniques to increase resolution of infrared images with the Keck I telescope. Superflares in Sunlike StarsBradley Schaefer (Yale University) presents evidence for "superflares" from sunlike stars. Eric Rubenstein (Yale University) explains what might be causing "superflares." |
