The Alt-Az Initiative for Lightweight Research Telescopes Workshop

Location: San Gabriel Room, Hilton

The Alt-Az Initiative is a catalyst for the development of low cost, lightweight, modest aperture (2 meters and less) alt-az research telescopes.  To date, six two-day workshops and two full conferences have been held.  Nearly a dozen technical initiatives have been completed or are underway, and one low cost, lightweight, technical demonstration telescope with lightweight mirrors, a lightweight structure, and direct drives has been completed.  A 39-chapter book, based on these meetings, initiatives, and demonstration, Galileo’s Legacy: Small Telescopes and Astronomical Research, is in final editing.

PowerPoint talks (10 to 20 minutes) and posters are welcome.  For further information and registration please go to: www.AltAzInitiative.org.  The registration fee is $35, and covers both days of the workshop.  Contact: Russ Genet, California Polytechnic State University, (805) 438-3305, russmgenet@aol.com.
