Come join us for an interactive "BYOQ" (Bring Your Own Questions) Special Session on Meaning from Surveys and Population Studies.

The outcomes of the drive to survey the sky at many wavelengths bring us new challenges - how well do we know how to use these data to answer each science question of interest? What about appropriate error models? Different groups bring different perspectives: different challenges and approaches.

We will bring together both 'methods' and 'data' researchers in a novel format. The emphasis is on understanding and 'cross-correlating' the main threads of discovery goals, challenges, and methods. Rapporteurs will summarize key points as each participant speaks (writing them on whiteboards, soliciting audience comments). Invited speakers will articulate the context, key problems, and new approaches, in a way non-specialists can grasp. We allocate time for cross-talk among contributors from different fields (VO, "Stacking", etc.), as well as from audience members. Since these are interdisciplinary, we expect talks to be accessible to curious newcomers, as well as more seasoned researchers.

We encourage you to submit questions/challenges in advance. Email is: chasc.astrostat@gmail.com (please include "SPS" or "BYOQ" in the subject line). As well, all are invited to participate in the upcoming "SPS" discussion hosted on the AstroStat Science Web-Log (groundtruth.info/AstroStat/slog/). Poster contributions are particularly encouraged!
