[153.08] Early Results from Suzaku: Broadband X-ray Spectroscopy of Supernova Remnants & Clusters of Galaxies

We report early results on extended sources from Suzaku, a joint Japan/US X-ray astronomy satellite launched in July 2005. Two companion talks present other recent results and a program overview. Suzaku features instruments and telescopes developed by US/Japanese collaborations. The X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) provides high-throughput, broadband (0.2-12 keV) CCD imaging spectroscopy with modest (2 arcmin) angular resolution, excellent spectral resolution (especially at E < 0.7 keV) and low specific background. The Hard X-ray Detector HXD) is a low-background, collimated spectrometer sensitive in the 10-300 keV band. Here we report results of observations of extended sources which demonstrate the unique capabilities of Suzaku.
