[170.06] Quantifying the Effects of Cosmic Variance Using the NOAO Deep-Wide Field Survey

The recently completed Böotes region of the NOAO Deep-Wide Field Survey provides an ideal data set with which to study the effects of cosmic variance. With 9 square degrees coverage in the Bw, R, I, and K-bands, the field can be broken down into sub-cells, allowing for the measurement of cosmic variance as a function of cell size. Our findings indicate that cosmic variance is a real and quantifiable effect that tends to increase with diminishing survey size and brighter magnitudes. Cosmic variance as a function of survey size and magnitude in Bw, R and I is presented, and the results are discussed.
