[92.14] Testing the Paradigm of X-ray Variability with 3C 390.3

K. Marshall, H.R. Miller (Georgia State U.)

The broad-line radio galaxy 3C~390.3 presents a unqiue challenge for the current paradigm of X-ray variability in active galaxies. Previous effors have reported both non-stationary and non-linear variability. We present an analysis of archival RXTE observations spanning 2 years, sampled every 3 days. The stationarity of the light curve is explored, and both the structure function and periodogram are presented. Along with 3C~120, 3C~390.3 allows us to compare variability processes in both radio-loud and radio-quiet objects.
