[87.06] A possible effect of GRB990510 on the Solar Wind

On May 10, 1999 there was an unprecedented solar wind disturbance, the onset of which began approximately two hours following the detection of the extremely high energy gamma ray burst GRB 990510.

This paper will discuss the possibility of the GRB as being the trigger for the solar wind disturbance. Photodisintegration of manybody atomic nuclei, caused by the gamma radiation, leading to a momentum exchanging thrust from below is postulated to have caused the solar wind disk to elevate above the ecliptic and cause its decrease in density in the ecliptic. Various hypothetical modes of photo disintegration of the nuclei will be discussed.
