[15.02] The Physical Nature of Centaur Asteroids; Rotation and Colors

N. Peixinho (Lisbon Astron. Obs.), J.L. Ortiz, P.J. Gutierrez (IAA, Granada), A. Doressoundiram (JPL), M. Roos-Serote (Lisbon Astron. Obs.)

Centaurs 1997 CU26 and 1995 DW2 have been observed in V and R from the 1.52-m telescope at Calar Alto (Spain) and from the 1.5-m telescope at Sierra Nevada (Spain) during April and May 1999. Light curves have been derived for a period of time spanning 29 days. We present the analysis of the light curves of these objects, determining the rotation period and the axial ratio. A preliminary rotation period of 18.53 hours is found for 1997 CU26, at a confidence greater than 70 %, and a peak to peak amplitude of 0.15 magnitudes. If confirmed, this would correspond an axial ratio of about 1.07.
