[84.07] Simulations of the Microlensing Optical Depth toward the Galactic Bar

T. P. Ashenfelter, G. J. Mathews, D. P. Bennett (University of Notre Dame), H.-S. Zhao (Leiden University)

The microlensing optical depth (\tau) toward the Galactic center is quantified using 3D N-body code simulations of the bar, disk, and halo components. Possible microlensing sources include both the remnant population and active stars up to sim 0.8 M\odot. We compute the remnant population using a chemical evolution model. The orientation of the bar is varied and the uncertainties of the bar are constrained by available observations. The results are compared to values of (\tau) obtained by microlensing searches along various lines of sight.
