[2.09] Structures and Spectra of three Radio Galaxies

D.M. Worrall, M. Birkinshaw (U.~of Bristol \& SAO)

The X-ray structures and spectra of three radio galaxies observed with ROSAT and ASCA (NGC 4261, NGC 6251, and 3C 346) are discussed in terms of

\begin{itemize}

\item intrinsic absorption at a level consistent with the presence of dusty disks seen in HST imaging and HI absorption,

\item an environment of hot (keV) gas consistent with the host galaxy being embedded in a significant group or cluster, and

\item a small-scale component associated with the nucleus of the galaxy.

\end{itemize}

However, the results are not unambiguous. We discuss the observational issues and physical uncertainties that the ambiguities imply, and relate these data to a general model of radio-galaxy nuclei.
