[26.07] Recent Progress in Modelling the RXTE Proportional Counter Array Instrumental Background

K. Jahoda, T.E. Strohmayer (GSFC), D.A. Smith, M.J. Stark (GSFC/U. Md.)

We present recent progress in the modelling of the instrumental background for the RXTE Proportional Counter Array. Unmodelled systematic errors for faint sources are now \le 0.2 ct/sec/3 PCU in the 2-10 keV band for data selected from the front layer. We present the status of our search for additional correlations.

We also present extensions of the times and conditions under which the L7 model is applicable: to early mission times (prior to April 1996) and to sources as bright as ~ 3000 count/sec/detector (comparable to the Crab).
