[80.02] The Variation in Star Formation Properties Between Nearby Galaxy Clusters

A study of actively star forming galaxies in two nearby clusters, Abell 262 and Abell 2151 (Hercules) is presented. Both clusters have similar spiral fractions and modest x-ray luminosities, yet Abell 262 has a blue fraction of only 0.02, typical of most nearby clusters, while Abell 2151 has a blue fraction of 0.14, close to that of Butcher--Oemler clusters at red-shifts z \geq 0.2. In an attempt to ascertain the reason for the difference between the two clusters, I have obtained B, R and H\alpha images using the 1.07 meter Hall telescope at the Lowell Observatory of a sample of galaxies selected by their FIR emission. The images, which trace the distribution of old stars (R), as well as recent (B-R) and present (H\alpha) star formation are being used examine the distribution and intensity of star formation between galaxies in the two clusters as well as a sample of field galaxies.
